January Fishing Report for St. Pete Beach
This January has been a great month for fishing. It has been a warm winter so far keeping us in the fall fishing patterns however with the cold fronts starting to move through more often we are starting to get into our winter routine. With the light offshore winds we have been able to get out into the Gulf of Mexico and target species like Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack, and Hogfish. After the cold fronts come through the wind stops most charter captains from going out but we just switch our tactics and head for the back bays and canals with warmer water. We have been catching Snapper, Sheepshead, Black drum, Snook, Redfish, and Trout when we fish the back bays. Also, we have been seeing TONS of wildlife when we are out like Manatees, Dolphins, Sea Turtles, and huge schools of rays. The key here is to find warmer water that is protected from the wind.
